The
sounds of Newbury Town and Greenham Common where recorded over a 6 month
period to create an aural landscape that played out inside the fuel tank.
The 60 foot long fuel tank was lined with speakers, utilising the shape
of the interior to move the sound to various spaces inside the tank. The
sounds recorded included: general street conversation, sky larks, gorse
popping, dogs barking, an interview with the last Greenham Woman on site,
people in shops, shopping centre musak and much much more. The inside
of the tank was dark with the exception of a screen at the end, which
held a pinhole image of the Common outside, spying on the inside whilst
listening to the sounds of the outside. A total experience. 2001 |
